Business security is important for protecting data, valuable equipment, and other sensitive information. Just because you hire employees for your business doesn't mean they should get access to every part of your property. Some areas you may limit restricted access, including offices, storage rooms, computer server rooms, or inventory rooms.
The installation of access control panels will improve security in the restricted areas and help you track who has access. When you implement access control options for your business, you have a number of options to choose from. Check out some of the access control options and ways to provide extra layers of security.
1. Scan Cards
One of the more traditional ways to limit access to areas of a business is with company scan cards. Instead of a key to unlock the door, a card is scanned through the reader and the door is unlocked. Many advanced locks will have a built-in timer that will automatically lock the door again after a set amount of time.
An advantage that comes with scan cards is the ability to issue cards to specific employees. When employees have their own cards, you have the option to set specific security limits to certain areas. For example, an inventory manager could have access to an inventory closet while another employee's card would not scan to open the area.
Some systems can track key card scans and create logs if any issues arise. Check logs to see who accessed specific rooms and know when the access was granted.
2. Key Fobs
If you want to reduce the administrative work of creating individual scan cards for certain rooms, then key fobs are another option. Key fobs include electronic data that communicates with an access panel and will unlock specific areas of the business. When you assign key fobs to employees, they can easily attach the fobs to a key chain for quick access.
Key fobs are ideal for multiple rooms that need access. Instead of individual keys for each room, a key fob will work on the doors and unlock each one as needed. Like scan cards, you have the option to turn access on and off as needed.
3. Smartphone Access
Bluetooth technology has changed the way technology interacts with each other. Since a majority of phones offer Bluetooth connections, you could choose access control options with Bluetooth built-in. Employees can install a security app that essentially acts like a key to specific rooms.
In many cases, just having the phone on them will grant door access without the need to pull out keys. If an employee leaves the job or is fired, then you do not need to worry about collecting a key or changing locks. Your own security app allows you to delete users and disable access to specific areas.
Like an access card, Smartphone lock access can also log access to specific areas and allow you to keep track of specific user actions.
4. Access Control Panels
Instead of employees carrying something physical to access a room, you have the simple option of installing an access control panel. An access control panel features a number keypad. You will assign a security number to gain access to the room. Eligible employees can receive the number and use it when they need to enter the area.
An access control panel may also include remote access options. With remote access, an employee can press a buzzer or doorbell button. Through smart app security features, you will receive a live alert and can grant an employee access. The remote access will keep you in the loop and will help when someone doesn't know the code.
